The May Devotion – The Sword of the Logos in Marian Grace

Dear Brothers and Sisters in the radiant light of the month of May, when creation itself bursts forth in all its beauty and fullness, the holy Catholic Church calls us to the May Devotion. The entire month of May is dedicated to the Mother of God, Mary – that is, to the Feminine in its highest, sanctified form. This is no mere custom of bygone times, but a living, mystical path of conversion – a call to the rediscovery of the Logos, that divine Sword which at once judges and heals, kills and awakens to eternal life. In the May Devotion we bend our knees before the Mother of God, the immaculate Virgin Mary, who as the pure Bride of Heaven leads the human soul into union with the symbolic Father: God in Heaven, the Origin of all Truth, Beauty, and the Good. Thus May becomes the sacred space in which the Feminine shines forth in all its Marian depth and embraces the paternal principle of the Logos in perfect balance.

For centuries, faithful souls have gathered in churches, at wayside shrines or in quiet home chapels to pray the Rosary, sing the Litany of Loreto and crown the image of Mary with fresh flowers. Especially in our present age we need strong symbols of healthy femininity. For the loss of the Feminine causes the soul of man and of the entire culture to wither. Where the Marian principle – pure, fruitful, humble yet powerful – is suppressed, life dries up, man loses his guiding strength, and the child loses its rooting. Therefore the May Devotion places Mary before us in her full abundance: as the remedy against spiritual withering. She calls us courageously to conversion.

Take part in the May Devotion, whether in the parish or in quiet prayer at home. Let the Sword of the Logos pierce your soul, so that the old may die and the new, the eternal, be born. In humility before Mary – the White as well as the Black – we find the strength to permeate the world with Truth and Morality. The May Devotion is the mystical garden in which the Rose of Faith blooms again – optimistic, victorious, unstoppable. It leads us back to the Father in Heaven, who awaits us with open arms.
